Alice Kettle's Cloud Project
The Clouds project is an ambitious, spectacular site-specific artwork project for Winchester Cathedral. It is led by Alice Kettle but is about bringing in as many contributors as possible.
It explores ideas of climate change and water security. It also references the connection to rain and St Swithun, the patron Saint of Winchester Cathedral. Clouds also have a spiritual meaning and have also become a term used for data storage.
The clouds will be a sequence of 7 textile panels, each approximately 9m x 6m. These will be printed on voile from drawings taken from drawing workshops conducted in several schools and other sources.
Winchester Textile and Embroidery Group is extremely pleased to have been asked to be involved in this project. A group of 20 members has had an initial workshop with Alice to stitch samples of various designs on organdie, some involving copying children's drawings.
